Who are we looking for?
Sonardyne are seeking an Electronic Hardware Team Leader who demonstrates the capabilities to lead, mentor and manager other team members. The Electronics Team Leader can successfully manage conflict resolution between team members, has strong decision-making skills and acts with independence based on evidence coming from their direct reports.
Your responsibilities:
The Electronic Hardware Team Leader’s time is split between electronic engineering activities (at a senior level) and managing a team of engineers.
Team Leadership
- Lead a team of engineering, ranging from experts in analogue, digital and PCB design to apprentices or junior members of the team.
- Inspire, coach and lead direct reports to enable them to achieve individual and business goals.
- Resource allocation – Understand who in their team is best placed to the achieve the product’s goals
- Team administration, including goal setting and performance reviews.
Technical Leadership
- Lead planning, architecture, development and validation of new hardware designs
- Apply risk / mitigation techniques at all stages of the development cycle.
- Mentor team members on technical matters to ensure they stay effective in their roles.
- Drive technical conversations on products and cross-engineering improvements.
- Investigate challenging and complex hardware issues, both in assistance to more junior members and directly with other areas of the business
- The department is responsible for maintaining existing products and working closely with the NPI department to ensure successful transition between the development and production phase
Individual technical responsibilities
- You will design, develop, test and deliver high quality and reliability electronic hardware.
- The scope of the role includes development of electronics hardware on a range of subsea instruments developed within the department from underwater acoustic modems, Doppler velocity logs to data loggers and much more.
- Keep up to date on technical changes in areas of speciality
The ideal candidate will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:
- Manufacturing– You will have had experience in a manufacturing company where you understand the consequences of the decisions you make and the importance of risk mitigation.
- Digital Electronics– Focus on low power but highly complex digital systems involving a range of digital architectures including embedded Linux and FPGA’s.
- Analogue Electronics – Low noise, low power analogue receiver design as well as high voltage transmitter designs. Power consumption is often critical due to the power source being limited.
- Simulation– Actively simulates designs to conform to the mantra “right first time”.
- EMC– Understand the principles of designing to meet EN60945 and other relevant standards.
- Altium– Can create circuits and has basic knowledge of PCB design techniques.
- Leadership– Can create circuits and has basic knowledge of PCB design techniques.
- Communication & Team Working– Proactively communicate and work effectively with other team members, and members of other teams throughout the business to achieve project deliverables
- People Management– Holding one-to-ones, appraisals, career planning. Knows how to listen and provide constructive coaching
- Embedded Software– Writing basic code to enable board bring-up and ensure testing is complete prior to hand over to Software Team
Essential:
- 2:1 or above in relevant Engineering degree, such as Electronics, but not limited to.
This role specialises in PCB rework / assembly, and to build the full range of Sonardyne’s products within recommended assembly build times and ensuring the highest level of quality standards throughout the production process.
- The ability to read and interpret Engineer drawings
- Previous manufacturing assembly experience, including soldering and crimping
- Proven ability to use production equipment i.e. soldering irons, crimps etc
- IT literate
