Quality Inspector (Mechanical) – 12-Month FTC

Contract Type: 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract (Covering Long-Term Sick Leave)

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Quality Inspector (Mechanical) to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract to cover long-term sick leave. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that mechanical parts conform to strict quality standards and specifications, are fit for purpose, and comply with all applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct comprehensive inspections of mechanical parts and assemblies from sub-contractors and in-house machine shops.
• Utilize traditional mechanical inspection equipment and 3-axis ABERLINK AXIOM CMM (manual and numerically controlled), including the ability to write programs.
• Coordinate the verification process of in-house machined components using a variety of gauges and tools to ensure compliance with specifications.
• Identify and report inaccuracies in component quality, documenting issues through the in-house Observation Report System.
• Conduct Chemical Etching and PMI testing, as required.
• Liaise with suppliers to resolve quality issues and conduct supplier visits/audits as necessary.
• Ensure all required paperwork and certification accompany inspected materials/components.
• Inspect coils, cables, battery packs, and other assemblies to check for damage, crimp joint integrity, and correct labeling, with occasional battery and PCB testing under supervision.
• Collaborate with design and development engineers to inspect prototype parts and assemblies.
• Prioritize work from the internal Machine Shop and external subcontractors/suppliers, including short-notice requests from production control.
• Maintain and calibrate inspection equipment, ensuring compliance with calibration schedules.
• Keep the ERP (Syspro) system updated with inspection results and prepare reject notes as necessary.
• Conduct all work in strict compliance with Health & Safety regulations, promoting a culture of safety-first.
• Ability to handle parts weighing up to 25kg safely, with lifting equipment available for heavier items.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience in mechanical inspection techniques, particularly for pressure vessel construction parts.
• Proficiency in using 3-axis ABERLINK AXIOM CMM (manual and NC equipment).
• Strong IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to work accurately to quality standards and procedures outlined in the Company Quality Management System.

Desirable Skills & Experience:

• Previous experience in an engineering/manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of electrostatic dissipative devices (ESD) requirements (useful for part-assembled sub-assemblies but not essential for mechanical parts).
